Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) is a comprehensive cancer research and treatment center located in Buffalo, New York. Founded in 1898 by Dr. Roswell Park, RCPI is America’s first cancer center and it is a National Cancer Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center – the only Upstate New York facility to hold this prestigious designation. RPCI also serves as a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Consisting of 15 buildings housed on 25 acres in downtown Buffalo, the RCPI Campus features one million square feet of space including a hospital building which houses a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center as well as a medical research complex. RCPI continues to expand to support the centers future growth.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute treats just about every form of cancer. In addition to mesothelioma, carcinoid, small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, just a few types of cancer types treated at RPCI include: head & neck cancer, esophageal cancer, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, kidney cancer, stomach cancer, brain cancer, bladder cancer, liver cancer, and skin cancer. RCPI also treats male cancers such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer as well as gynecological cancers such as ovarian, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer, endometrial, and cervical cancer.

The Roswell Park Cancer Institute team of cancer physicians and researchers consists of literally dozens of top health care professionals in numerous discipline areas including surgery, radiation, radiology, blood and marrow transplantation, cancer risk management, radiation medicine, and clinical genetics. RCPI is specialized in Mohs Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Surgery, to name a few. Mohs Micrographic Surgery is a cutting-edge treatment that requires highly specialized physicians that serve as surgeon, pathologist, and reconstructive surgeon. This advanced treatment process for skin cancer offers the highest possible cure rate for many skin cancers and simultaneously minimizes the sacrifice of normal tissue.

Treatment types offered at RCPI include: conventional and computer-assisted neurosurgery, microneurosurgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. In addition, Roswell Park Cancer Institute offers a wide variety of clinical trials in various phases. Roughly 50% of RPCI patients are eligible to enter clinical trials. Currently, RCPI is conducting more than a dozen lung cancer clinical trials in various phases.

RPCI holds accreditations or certifications from many organizations, such as the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.
