The City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Because the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center is a comprehensive center, this means that it not only focuses on basic science research and clinical (patient-oriented) research, but it also focuses on control, prevention, and population sciences. Comprehensive centers also serve their communities and regions, through education, information activities, and outreach. Comprehensive status is the highest possible ranking by the National Cancer Institute.

City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center regards itself as an “innovative biomedical research, treatment, and educational institution dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening illness.” City of Hope treats all adult and pediatric cancers from A-Z. In addition to mesothelioma, City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center treats adult cancers such as anal cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer, brain tumors, chronic acute myeloid, lymphocytic, and myelogenius leukemia, esophageal cancer, gallbladder cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, rectal cancer, and thyroid cancer, to name a few.

City of Hope treats the following Pediatric/Childhood Cancers: bone & soft tissue cancer, brain tumor, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute Myeloid, leukemia, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, liver cancer, neuroblastoma, and soft tissue sarcoma.

City of Hope is considered one of the nations leader’s in cancer research and it conducts literally hundreds of clinical trials and studies. The City of Hope Cancer Center clinical trials are research studies that test new treatments on patients to determine their level of safety and effectiveness. The center tests a wide variety of drugs, diagnostic procedures, and other innovative therapies.

City of Hope was named one of ” America ‘s Best Hospitals” for cancer and urology in 2007 by U.S. News & World Report. It ranked 30th on the list of top cancer hospitals and 29th on the list for urology. The City of Hope is one of only five centers located in the state of California to appear on the list and one of only six hospitals in California ranked in urology. Additionally, the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only two cancer centers in the Los Angeles area to be ranked.
