Welcome to the newly re-designed Ban Asbestos Now! website. In addition to giving the site a shiny new facelift, we’ve added a number of features such as this blog, a wall where you can share your story and help others see the importance of banning asbestos, a counter tracking how many letters we’ve received urging Congress to BAN! and more. We encourage you to explore the new site and check back often for info about all things BAN!
One of the things we’re most excited about is this blog. Many of you have found us on Facebook and Twitter, but here we hope to build on these conversations and keep the BAN! movement rolling. The BAN! blog will provide you with the latest projects we’re working on, developments on Capitol Hill, and news ranging from treatments for asbestos-related diseases and cancer research, to the environment and chemical safety.
Ban Asbestos Now! is an advocacy program designed to raise awareness about the national asbestos problem, educate people about the health issues that can result from asbestos exposure, and – most importantly – urge Congress to ban asbestos from the U.S. Asbestos is a known human carcinogen and exposure can result in various asbestos-related diseases, including lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma. While more than 40 countries around the world have banned asbestos (including the European Union) the material is still allowed to be used in the U.S. and is present in many consumer products.
There is an urgent need for increased awareness, education and action to address the dangers of asbestos on a national scale. Now is the time for those affected by asbestos-related diseases to share their stories and bring attention to the hazards these materials pose. Asbestos is all around us, and anyone who cares about their family’s safety can play a role in BAN!
So use our form and sign a letter to Congress. Fan us on Facebook. Tell a friend to do the same. Because with your help, BAN! can make a difference.
