The presentations will cover recent treatment developments, pathology reports, asbestos diseases other than mesothelioma, and promote basic mesothelioma awareness. Some of the distinguished guests include Samuel Hammar, MD, Director of Diagnostic Specialty Laboratories, Bremerton, WA and Victor L. Roggli, MD, Professor Pathology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.  Jerrold L. Abraham, MD, Professor of Pathology, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY and D. Wayne Berman, Ph. D., researcher in asbestos exposure and risk of President Aeolus, Inc., San Francisco, CA.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that currently has no cure.  The only treatment options exist to make the patient more comfortable and experience less pain.  Asbestos exposure is the leading cause of a diagnosis of mesothelioma, and comes with a 20 to 50- year latency period causing a person to not even realize their illness until the disease is in its final stages.

Approximately 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed every year.
