The town of Ivor Close, Holbury sits near England’s south coast and those that live there hope escape the harshest part of the English winter. However, they face another risk to their health and safety. That is from the dangerous cancer-causing material asbestos.
Solent Environmental Services (SES) is a company that provides asbestos removal services to the region and they go through great lengths to protect their employees from asbestos exposure.
They wear full protective clothing, including respirators and gloves in accordance with the latest safety regulations. Their property borders a residential area and unprotected neighbors wonder about their own safety.
“All that separates people living in homes is a thin wooden boundary that would offer little in the way of protection if anything went wrong,” according to ThisIsHampshire.net.
“But the company, which handles both white asbestos and the blue variety – generally regarded as more lethal – insists families living next to the site are not at risk.”
They argue that neighbors do not risk inhaling loose asbestos fibers from their facilities. Once inhaled, these fibers act as tiny spears, puncturing and scarring the tissues of the lungs. This may result in asbestos related diseases like asbestosis, lung cancer and, most serious, mesothelioma. This rare form of cancer, diagnosed in roughly 3,000 Americans each year, usually targets the mesothelium that surrounds the lungs (pleura), although it can also strike in the abdominal cavity (peritoneal mesothelioma). The tumor that forms with mesothelioma is a diffuse one that can spread rapidly across the tissue. Yet mesothelioma is rarely diagnosed in its earliest stage, when it is operable. Instead, it develops quietly within the body before manifesting symptoms. Asbestos exposure is accountable for virtually all cases of mesothelioma.
If you are experiencing any asbestos exposure symptoms, you may wish to contact your doctor. He or she will be able to identify early signs of asbestos-related disease and advise you on an appropriate path of medical treatment.
For those who are diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma, there may be reason to pursue an asbestos lawsuit against a former employer with the hopes of receiving a cash settlement. Contact a mesothelioma attorney to learn more about asbestos law and the possible o
