Dr. Jeanne M. Lukanich is a Thoracic Surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Division of Thoracic Surgery. She is also an Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and she is Director of the Brigham and Women’s and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Women’s Lung Cancer Program. Dr. Jeanne is a part of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Lung Transplant Team and she has been the primary instructor of the fellows in harvesting organs for three years in a row.
Dr. Lukanich’s interests include thoracic surgical diseases, lung transplantation, benign and malignant esophageal diseases , and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Dr. Lukanich instituted a comprehensive thoracic surgical program at Boston VA Hospitals, and she also organized a multimodality approach to Thoracic Oncology, also at Boston VA Hospitals, as well as Jamaica Plain and Roxbury VA Hospitals.
Dr. Lukanich received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1987. She completed her Residency in General Surgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center from 1987-1989. Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Lukanich madder her way back to Chicago where completed her second Residency in General Surgery at Columbus Hospital from 1989-1990.
After completing her Residency in General Surgery at Columbus Hospital in Chicago , she went to Ohio to complete her Residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Wright State University in Dayton from 1990-1993. Dr. Lukanich traveled to Ontario, Canada where she completed another Residency at the Hospital for Sick Children July-December 1994. From 1995-1996, Dr. Lukanich completed her Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Toronto in Ontario. Dr. Lukanich returned to the U.S. in 1996 for her Thoracic Surgery Fellowship at Harvard University Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She completed her Thoracic Surgery Fellowship in 1997. Dr. Lukanich was appointed to the position of Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School in 1996.
Dr. Lukanich has a long list of impressive Board Certifications. She is FLEX board certified, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, 1992; Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor Exam,1993; American Board of Surgery Qualifying Exam, 1993; American Board of Surgery Certifying Exam, 1994, and The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, Cardiothoracic Surgery, BE. Dr. Lukanich received her Board Certification in General Surgery in 1994 and her Board Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1997 and 1988.
Dr. Lukanich is a member of The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network (CSN), The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and Women in Thoracic Surgery (WTS).
