Dr. Hedy Lee Kindler has been in the medical profession for more than 20 years. She is the Director of the Mesothelioma Program at The University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to her position as Director of the Mesothelioma Program, Dr. Kindler is Medical Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology and Associate Professor of Medicine — also at The University of Chicago Medical Center. In addition to her current staff positions and faculty positions, Dr. Kindler also serves as the Chair Mesothelioma Program of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, a national cooperative cancer research group. In addition to the medical treatment of mesothelioma, Dr. Kindler also specializes in the medical treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Kindler also investigates new treatments for cancer, in addition to her specialties, such as therapies that target the unique biology of mesothelioma, and novel drugs that slow the growth of blood vessels to pancreatic tumors. Her complete list of clinical interests is as follows: malignant mesothelioma, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), and hepatobiliary cancer.
Dr. Kindler attended medical school at State University of New York in Buffalo , where she received her Medical Degree (M.D.). She completed her Internship and Residency at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. She returned to New York to complete her Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Kindler is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and she is a member of The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Cancer and Leukemia Group B, The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), The International Mesothelioma Interest Group (IMIG), and The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF).
Dr. Kindler is a speaker, making her way around to dozens of scientific meetings throughout the United States, and she is the author of several book chapters, nearly 50 scientific articles, and she is a reviewer for a wide variety of cancer journals. Dr. Kindler is also on the editorial board of BioOncology Watch — Targeted Therapies “Timely Information for Practicing Physicians.”
Numerous medical outlets including magazines, journals, radio programs, and websites have interviewed Dr. Kindler. She was interviewed by Medscape from WebMD on the topic of Pancreatic Cancer.
