Dr. Dong M. Shin is Associated Director of Emory Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Shin also holds several additional positions at Emory University School of Medicine. He is also Professor of Hematology/Oncology and Otolaryngology, Director of the Clinical and Translational Cancer Prevention Program, Co-Director of the Translational Lung Aerodigestive Tract Malignancies Program, and Associate Director of Academic Development. Dr. Shin specializes in medicine related to aerodigestive biology and to the head, neck, and lungs.

Dr. Shin completed his medical school education in Seoul, Korea. He received his Medical Degree (M.D.) from Yonsei University, College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea, in 1975. Dr. Shin completed his Internship at Yonsei University Hospital in Seoul, Korea, in 1979. Dr. Shin completed his 2nd Internship in the U.S. at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital in 1983. He completed his Residency in 1985, also at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shin remained in the U.S. making his way down to Texas from Chicago to complete his Fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 1988. Dr. Shin was appointed to Associate Director of Emory Winship Cancer Institute in 2005.

Dr. Shin is an award-winning physician with a long list of awards collected throughout nearly two decades. In 1987, Dr. Shin received the Award of University Cancer Foundation Research at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and in 1991, he received the Award of Clinical Oncology Career Development from American Cancer Society. In 1994, Dr. Shin received Distinguished Leadership Award for Cancer Research from the American Biographical Institute, and in 2000, he received the Faculty Scholar Award at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. In 2001, Dr. Shin was the Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Scientists Award Nominee at the University of Pittsburgh, and he was listed on the list of Best Doctors in America from 2003-2004. He was also listed on the list of Top Doctors in Oncology in Atlanta in 2005.

Dr. Shin is a member of numerous organizations. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR); he is a University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Associate, and a member of the American Head and Neck Society. Dr. Shin is also on the UCC International Fellowship Review Panel and he is the Co-Chair of the Cancer Prevention Committee, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group.
