With a primary affiliation with the University of Tennessee, Memphis, College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and College of Allied Health, the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a fully accredited 244-bed specialized consultative care facility consisting of one main campus (Jefferson Avenue) and two off-site VA-staffed primary care community based outpatient clinics (CBOC) – VA Memphis South and Memphis VA North. The VA Memphis South community based outpatient clinic currently serves more than 10,000 veterans in the areas of primary care and mental health. The VA Memphis North community based outpatient clinic serves more than 7,700 veterans. VA Memphis North also serves veterans in the areas of primary care and mental health.
The medical center also has additional affiliations with associated health professions with colleges and universities across the U.S. The Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center has established community based outpatient clinics in Smithville, Mississippi; Byhalia, Mississippi; Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Savannah, Tennessee. In addition, the medical center has eight additional community based outpatient clinics that have been approved under the Secretary’s decision on Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES).
The Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s main campus offers a wide range of medical services and medical care including: acute medical care and surgical care, as well as intermediate care. The main medical center also offers a full range of primary, specialty, and subspecialty care such as oncology, psychiatry, neurology, spinal cord injury, rehabilitation, dentistry, and special services designed for women’s care.
Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center has dozens of special programs, services, and centers in place in the areas of radiation oncology, and pain management as well as the following: ambulatory surgery, audiology/speech pathology, cardiology/cardiac cath, CT/MRI scanning, cytogenetic referral center, day treatment center, dermatology, dialysis, digital angiography, endoscopic surgery, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, hemodialysis center, hospital-based primary care, neurosurgery, nuclear medicine, oncology/hematology, optometry services, open heart surgery, oral surgery and implantology, orthopedics, pain management, prosthetic treatment center, research, sleep disorder program, spinal cord Injury center, substance abuse treatment (inpatient/outpatient),veterans outreach, and visual impairment support.
