The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is an academic medical center that provides superior patient care. University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is home to several research institutions. UT’s institutions train more than 4,200 medical, graduate and allied health students, residents and postdoctoral fellows each year. UT Southwestern Medical Center offers medical services including, but not limited to: allergy, bariatrics, otolaryngology, heart, lung and vascular, infectious disease, kidneys, and orthopedic surgery, as well as cancer care services, radiation oncology, and radiology.

The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Care Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center treats mesothelioma and other cancers of the lungs as well as head and neck cancers, gastrointestinal cancer, gynecologic cancers, lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, melanoma, urologic cancers, breast cancer, and brain and spinal cord cancers. The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Care Center receives support from tsome of the most prestigious cancer research institutions in the nation including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Radiation Oncology Service has a faculty of experts in the use of a variety of state-of-the-art technologies to treat cancer patients such as Elektra Synergy and three Varian linear accelerator with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) capability. The Radiation Oncology Service also offers conventional 3D conformal radiotherapy, low- and high-dose rate brachytherapy, prostate seed implants and stereotactic radiosurgery, and radiotherapy with the Accuray CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System and the Gamma Knife system. Pediatric patients from Children’s Medical Center Dallas also receive treatment with these technologies.

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Radiation Oncology Service specializes in cancers of the lung, thymus and esophagus, tumors of the brain and spinal cord, and brain metastases, tumors of the breast, cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, cancers of the urinary tract, male genital organs and prostate, cancers of the female genital tract and urethra, cancers of the head and neck, including thyroid and skin cancer, Lymphoma, multiple myeloma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, cancerous growth on the upper back, lower legs, head and neck, and soft tissue sarcoma, and tumors and hematologic malignancies in children.

Because UT Southwestern Medical Center is a comprehensive medical center, patients will have an initial consultation, testing, follow-up visits and any needed medical procedures all in one location at the Moncrief Building.
