Portsmouth, UK – The family of a former sheet metal worker is still coming to terms with the man’s death from mesothelioma earlier this year. Tom Williamson had no knowledge of being exposed to asbestos at his workplace, but quickly succumbed to the asbestos cancer mesothelioma in a matter of months following his diagnosis.

Researchers Join Forces to Develop Mesothelioma Drug

Mesothelioma patients may be closer than ever before to receiving a new drug aimed at treating and preventing the deadly cancer. Drug researchers from China and the United States are working together on the KDR/Kit Inhibitor, which will work to end the new growth of cancerous cells in patients.

Florida Mom Claims Mold, Asbestos led to Son’s Death

Jacksonville, Fla. – The unexpected death of a Jacksonville pre-teen has led the boy’s mother to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the owner of the family’s apartment complex. Michele McGrady claims that toxic mold and asbestos led to the death of her son, 12-year-old Darius Thompson.

Papua New Guinea Seeks Asbestos Ban Over Mesothelioma Concern

Papua New Guinea – Medical experts in Papua New Guinea are calling on the country’s government to ban the importation of asbestos for construction and building purposes. Although asbestos has been banned for use in construction by most countries, it is still being used in Papua New Guinea. They are also calling for tighter building controls to regulate and reduce exposure as much as possible, since exposure to this insulating mineral material can lead to mesothelioma.

Secondhand Asbestos Exposure Causes Mesothelioma In Swindon Woman

A woman who had never been directly exposed to asbestos, but who may have come into contact with it in her own home, has died from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. Linda Sinnett, 58, was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer which affects the membrane that lines and protects the abdominal cavity.

Aide to Queen Mother Dies From Mesothelioma

London—The former Private Secretary to Britain’s Queen Mother has died of the asbestos cancer mesothelioma, and an inquest is to be held into his death to determine if he was exposed to the deadly toxin at Clarence House.

Sir Alastair Aird, 78, worked for the Queen Mother for over 40 years, and was one of the last people to see her before her death in 2002. In 2003, in recognition of his long and distinguished service, he was appointed an Extra Equerry to the Queen.

Former Metal Worker Dies From Mesothelioma

Windsor, England – An open verdict was reached in the preliminary investigation into the death of 70-year-old Reginald Tinmouth, who passed away in July from the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. Tinmouth’s death is being investigated, as the coroner could not find any visible signs of asbestos exposure, typically the leading cause of this deadly cancer.

Second Mesothelioma Lawsuit Filed Against Seven Defendants

Jefferson County, TX—A widow whose husband died of the asbestos disease mesothelioma has filed a second lawsuit against corporations, claiming that their negligence caused his cancer.

Willie Mae Denson is filing the suit on behalf of her deceased husband, Elijah Denson Sr., who worked as a laborer, carpenter and furnace technician. During his employment in these capacities, he was exposed to asbestos in his workplace and therefore contracted mesothelioma, a rare cancer which is linked to asbestos exposure in almost all cases.

Former British Space Agency Chief Killed By Mesothelioma

Barrow, U.K.—The former head of the British National Space Centre, Britain’s contribution to the European Space Agency, has died as a result of the asbestos cancer mesothelioma.

Dr. Derrick Gould, 73, died on June 22. An inquest was held on Monday to look into the cause of death, carried out by Ian Smith, coroner for South and East Cumbria. It was ruled that he died from an “industrial disease.”

Contractor Under Fire for Previous Mishaps Charged Over Asbestos Removal

New Paltz, N.Y.—Asbestos abatement violations were discovered in a project at the State University of New York campus in New Paltz, officials said, leading to charges against a contractor from Staten Island. Asbestos, which was used in drywall, ceiling tiles, and other building materials in three dorms, can cause the cancer mesothelioma if removed improperly.

Chemotherapy Combination Found Effective in Treating Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma, a rare asbestos cancer that affects the soft tissues surrounding the lungs and lining the chest, is usually not diagnosed until it has reached its most advanced stages, and therefore is often inoperable. Even when surgery is not an option to remove the tumor, other traditional treatments such chemotherapy and radiation can be administered in order to shrink the tumor and help stop or slow its progression through the body. They are also helpful in improving quality of life and duration of survival.
