Dr. Robert Brian Cameron is Director of Thoracic Oncology at UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Surgery in Los Angeles, California. He is also Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic and Surgical Oncology as well as Director of Thoracic Oncology At UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. In addition to his positions at UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Cameron is Chief of General Thoracic Surgery at Wadsworth Veterans Administration Hospital.
In addition to mesothelioma treatment, Dr. Cameron’s areas of interest include: thoracic oncology, lung volume reduction surgery, thoracic pain management, thoracic surgery graduate medical education, Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VTS), lasers and bronchial/esophageal stents, cancer and immunotherapy, and cancer and angiogenesis.
Dr. Cameron completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University in Stanford, California from 1976-1980. He graduated with a 3.90 G.P.A. and a B.A.S in medieval studies and biology. Dr. Cameron completed his Medical Degree (M.D.) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1984. He completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery training at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center/Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1992-1994. Dr. Cameron completed his General Surgery training at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1989-1992 and 1984-1986. He completed his Surgical Oncology training at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health 1986-1989. Dr. Cameron was appointed to the position of Professor of Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1997.
Dr. Cameron is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the San Francisco Surgical Society, and the New York Academy of Sciences. He was a member of the UCSF Thoracic Oncology Group from 1995-1997 and Chairman of the UCSF-Mt Zion Cancer Center Thoracic Tumor Board from 1994-1997. Dr. Cameron is currently Chairman of the UCLA-Jonnson Comprehensive Cancer Center Thoracic Tumor Board from. He has been Chairman since 1997.
Dr. Cameron was Chairman of the Preferred Oncology Network of California Lung Cancer Committee from 1994-1995 and he was on the UCSF Cancer Center Protocol Review Committee from 1995-1997 and the UCSF Cancer Center Steering Committee from 1995-1997. He is currently on the UCLA-Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Quality Assurance Committee, the UCLA-Cancer Committee, and the UCLA-Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Committee. He has served on these committees since 1997. Dr. Cameron has been Board Certified in General Surgery since 1993 and he received his Board Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1995.
