Choosing the right asbestosis lawyer

Asbestos is a thin mineral fiber once used in many common products (such as roof tiles, floor tiles, and insulation) because of its durability and heat resistance. However, exposure to asbestos can lead to several life-threatening diseases including asbestosis, mesothelioma, and asbestos lung cancer.

Asbestos laws have been put in place to help those exposed to asbestos get financial compensation from the companies that put their health and lives at risk. If you have been diagnosed with asbestosis, you may want to file a lawsuit against those responsible for your injury. Choosing an asbestosis lawyer to help you with your lawsuit is an important decision.

What is Asbestosis?

Asbestosis is a non-cancerous, chronic, progressive, inflammatory and fibrotic lung disease.

Asbestosis is a job-related hazard for people working in the mining of asbestos; construction workers working directly with asbestos especially in renovating, demolishing or building houses or other structures; shipyard workers; or workers involved in manufacturing of asbestos-related products such as insulation or textiles.

The time it takes the disease to develop visible symptoms could be up to 20 to 30 years after asbestos exposure. Symptoms of asbestosis are shortness of breath due to reduced capacity of lungs and general fatigue. The thickening of the tiny alveoli in the lungs (which pass oxygen to the blood stream) along with scarring of the lungs will cause reduced lung capacity.

Asbestosis is irreversible and life-altering. Treatment may focus on making a patient with this diagnosis as comfortable as possible. The patient may have to wear an oxygen mask to help with breathing. To help remove fluid buildup in the lungs, various treatments such as drainage or chest percussion may be tried. Aerosol medications to thin the fluid in the lungs may also be used. In some cases, a patient may require a lung transplant.

Choosing an Asbestosis Lawyer

If you file a lawsuit against those responsible for your asbestos exposure, then you may be able to receive compensation for medical expenses that you may incur while being treated for asbestosis.

Finding the right asbestosis lawyer is important to making a claim. The asbestosis lawyer you choose should be experienced in dealing with asbestosis claims in order to help you navigate the complexities of asbestos law. The lawyer should also have the resources to analyze and investigate a potential claim as well as determining who is responsible for your pain and suffering.
